A growing Grand Rapids manufacturer is hiring a Cost Accountant to own inventory and cost reporting and support month-end close across a multi-location business.

A growing, multi-location manufacturing organization in the Grand Rapids area. The accounting team partners closely with operations and works on a hybrid schedule, with two to three days a week in the office.

The opportunity

The Cost Accountant supports accurate inventory and cost reporting while partnering with the broader accounting and operations teams. The role also contributes to general accounting, month-end close, financial analysis, and ongoing process improvements.

It is ideal for an accounting professional with experience in manufacturing, distribution, inventory, or other product-based environments who enjoys combining hands-on accounting with analysis and process improvement.

Key responsibilities
  • Support cost accounting and inventory-related accounting activities

  • Perform inventory analysis, reconciliations, and reporting

  • Analyze product costs, cost trends, and variances to identify issues and opportunities

  • Support month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations

  • Assist with general ledger accounting and fixed asset tracking

  • Assist with financial reporting, management reporting, and variance analysis

  • Analyze financial and operational data and communicate findings to accounting and business leaders

  • Partner with operations and other departments to ensure accurate financial information

  • Assist with annual audit preparation and other reporting requirements

  • Support ERP, system, and accounting process improvement initiatives

Ideal profile
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

  • Previous accounting experience in a manufacturing, distribution, inventory-intensive, or product-based environment

  • Experience with cost accounting and/or inventory accounting

  • Understanding of general ledger accounting and month-end close

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and U.S. GAAP

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience with ERP or accounting systems

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with excellent attention to detail

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred: exposure to product costing, inventory valuation, COGS, or variance analysis; ERP implementations, upgrades, or conversions; and experience in a multi-location, high-growth, or acquisition-driven organization.

Compensation & benefits

This position offers a $75,000 to $85,000 base salary and a hybrid schedule with approximately two to three days per week in the Grand Rapids office.
